Indications/Uses
Acute gouty arthritis. Prophylaxis of gout.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Acute gouty arthritis Initially 0.5-1.2 mg orally, followed by 0.5 mg 2 hrly until pain is relieved or nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea occurs. Usual dose range: 4-8 mg [initially 1 mg (2 tab) followed by 0.5 mg 1 hrly]. Prophylaxis of gout 0.5 mg once wkly up to once daily (0.5-1 mg daily).
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ GI, urinary tract & severe heart diseases; hematologic disorders. Pregnancy & lactation.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ susceptibility to toxicity. Heart, liver, kidney, & GI diseases. Not recommended for SC or IM administration as it may cause severe local irritation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Peripheral neuritis, muscle weakness, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea which usually occurs concomitantly w/ peptic ulcer or colon spasm, urticaria, aplastic anemia, agranulocytosis, dermatitis, purpura, alopecia. In toxic dose, may cause severe diarrhea, blood vessel damage, kidney impairment w/ hematuria & oliguria.
Drug Interactions
May impair the absorption of vit B12.
