Infection of lower resp tract, urinary tract, bone & joint, intra-abdominal, skin; gonorrhoea, bacterial septicaemia, peri-op prophylaxis, if there is a possibility of severe infection complication.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >12 yr 1-2 g once daily depending on type & severity of infection. Max: 4 g daily. Uncomplicated gonococcal infection 250 mg IM as a single dose. Childn <12 yr & infantFor serious infection other than meningitis 50-75 mg/kg daily in equally divided doses 12 hrly. Max: 2 g/day. Meningitis 100 mg/kg daily in divided doses 12 hrly w/ or w/o a loading dose of 75 mg/kg. Max: 4 g/day. Pre-op use (surgical prophylaxis) 1 g as a single dose ½-2 hr before surgery. To be administered by IV, IM or short IV infusion.
