Hypersensitivity.

Special Precautions
Women w/ recurrent infections or those having 1st-time vag yeast infection. Childn <12 yr. Pregnancy and lactation.

Adverse Reactions
Vulvovaginal burning, itching, soreness and swelling, pelvic or abdominal pain or cramping. Severe reversible thrombocytopenia. Rarely, headache, urinary frequency and burning, vulvovaginal discharge, irritation, stinging and odor.

Patient Counseling Information
May weaken latex or rubber products (e.g. condoms, vag contraceptive diaphragms), do not use w/in 72 hr of treatment. Avoid contact w/ eyes.

Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Butoconazole, a synthetic azole antifungal, is usually fungistatic in action but may have growth phase-dependent fungicidal activity at high concentrations or against very susceptible organisms. It exerts its fungistatic activity by interfering w/ ergosterol synthesis and altering cellular membranes. It also has some antibacterial activity against gm+ve organisms. Pharmacokinetics: Absorption: Approx 5% is absorbed after vag use. Excretion: Plasma half-life: 21-24 hr. |
