Adverse Reactions
Blurred vision, eyelid margin crusting, corneal irritation, increased lacrimation; periorbital and conjunctival oedema; ocular discomfort, pain, pruritus, and hyperaemia; contact dermatitis.

Patient Counseling Information
Remove contact lenses prior to application. This drug may cause transient blurring of vision, if affected, do not drive or operate machinery.

Mechanism of Action: Carbomer is a polymer of acrylic acid cross-linked w/ polyalkenyl ethers of sugars and polyalcohols. It is used as a tear substitute in the management of dry eyes. Additionally, it is used as suspending agent, gel base, emulsifier, and binding agent in pharmaceutical manufacturing. Pharmacokinetics: Absorption: Absorption is negligible in ocular tissues. Distribution: Rapidly spreads over the conjunctiva and cornea forming a lubricating film w/ prolonged contact time. |
