Tranexamic acid
Indications/Uses
Bleeding due to systemic fibrinolysis eg, leukemia, hypoplastic anemia, purpura or abnormal bleeding during surgery. Abnormal bleeding due to local fibrinolysis eg, bleeding in sputum, coughing up blood in TB, bleeding in genitalia, kidneys, during or after prostate surgery. Symptoms eg, erythema, swelling or itching caused by eczema or similar diseases, urticaria, drug allergy, toxic exanthema, pharyngodynia, redness, hyperemia in tonsillitis & pharyngolaryngitis. Pain in the oral cavity or mucosa in case of stomatitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
IM/IV 250-500 mg daily in 1-3 divided doses.
Contraindications
Patients receiving thrombin.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity. Thrombosis or in risk of thrombosis; coagulopathy consumption; post-op, patients in bedrest, hematuria, receiving therapy to stop bleeding. Kidney failure. Pregnancy & lactation. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Shock, itchiness, rash, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhea, transient color vision disturbance, drowsiness, headache.
Drug Interactions
Hemocoagulation agents, batroxobin, coagulation factors.
