Cefadroxil monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Resp tract, skin & soft tissue & GUT infection, osteomyelitis, arthritis, septicaemia, peritonitis, puerperal sepsis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 g daily in 2 divided doses. Cystitis 1-2 g daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Other UTI 2 g daily in 2 divided doses. Skin & soft tissue infections 1 g daily as a single dose or in 2 divided doses. Upper & lower resp tract infections 1 g daily. The dose may be increased up to 2 g daily in severe infections in 2 divided doses. Pharyngitis & tonsillitis caused by group A β-haemolytic streptococci 1 g daily in divided doses for 10 days. Childn 25-50 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin-allergic patients. Colitis. Impaired renal function.
Adverse Reactions
GI discomfort, hypersensitivity reactions. Rarely, pseudomembranous colitis.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides, potent diuretics & probenecid.
