Cefixime
Indications/Uses
Uncomplicated UTI, otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, acute bronchitis & acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥30 kg 50-100 mg twice daily.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. High dose or prolonged use. History of allergy eg, bronchial asthma, rash, urticaria; malnutrition/receiving parenteral nutrition. Severe kidney function impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn <6 mth. Elderly & debilitated patient.
Adverse Reactions
Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, pseudomembranous colitis, loose stools, abdominal pain, dyspepsia, heartburn, anorexia, bloating, skin rash, pruritus, urticaria, erythema multiforme, SJS, serum sickness-like reactions, dizziness, headache; transient increase of SGOT/SGPT & alkaline phosphatase; shock; granulocytopenia or eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia, interstitial pneumonia, stomatitis or candidiasis; vit K deficiencies; false +ve result of urine glucose test w/ Benedict's or Fehling's soln & Clinitest.
