AdultSerious infection 150-300 mg every 6 hr. Severe infection 300-450 mg every 6 hr. ChildnSerious infection 3-6 mg/kg every 6 hr depending on the severity of the infection. β-haemolytic streptococcal infection Duration of therapy: At least 10 days.
Should be reserved for serious infections. Not to be used in patients w/ URTIs. History of GI disease eg, colitis. Monitor for change in bowel frequency in elderly w/ severe infections sensitive to diarrhea. Atopic individuals. Overgrowth of non-susceptible organism eg, yeasts. Appropriate measure should be taken if superinfections occur. Surgical procedures should be performed in conjunction w/ antibiotic therapy. Periodically monitor liver & kidney function tests & blood counts during high-dose & prolonged therapy. Not to be used in the treatment of meningitis. Severe renal disease accompanied by severe metabolic disorders. Patients w/ hepatic or renal impairment. Lactation. Proper observation of organ function in newborn. Elderly.
