Schizophrenia in patients who are nonresponsive or intolerant of classical neuroleptics.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 12.5 mg once or twice daily on the 1st day, followed by 1 or 2 25-mg tab on the 2nd day. Dose may be increased slowly to 25-50 mg until 300 mg daily w/in 2-3 wk, may be further increased to 50-100 mg ½-wkly. Dose range: 200-450 mg daily in divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
History of drug-induced granulocytopenia & agranulocytosis, impaired bone marrow function, uncontrolled epilepsy, alcoholic & other toxic psychoses, drug intoxication, comatose conditions, circulatory collapse, CNS depression, severe hepatic dysfunction & renal or cardiac failure.
Special Precautions
Avoid concomitant use w/ bone marrow suppressants & long-acting or depot antipsychotics. History of epilepsy, presence of CV, renal or liver disorders, prostatic enlargement. May impair ability to drive or operate machinery. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn. Elderly.
