Contraindications
Coma; severe CNS depression, pheochromocytoma.

Special Precautions
Hepatic or renal impairment; history of jaundice; CV disease; angle-closure glaucoma; diabetes mellitus; hyperthyroidism; Parkinson's disease; epilepsy and post-encephalitic state, depression, myasthenia gravis; prostatic hypertrophy; severe resp disease; blood dyscrasias. May precipitate coma, affect driving. Pregnancy; lactation; elderly.

Adverse Reactions
Alter temp regulation; neuroleptic malignant syndrome; CNS effects (extrapyramidal effects); GI disturbances; nasal congestion; antimuscurinic symptoms; CV symptoms, ECG changes; endocrine effects; blood dyscrasias; photosensitisation, contact sensitisation, rashes; jaundice; corneal and lens opacities; purplish pigmentation of skin and eye.

CNS depressants eg, alcohol, anticholinergics, antihypertensives, α/β-blocker, lithium, trazodone, valproic acid, chloroquine, tricyclic antidepressants, antiarrhythmics, cisapride, pimozide, sparfloxacin, metoclopramide, amiodarone, cimetidine, delavirdine, fluoxetine, paroxetine, propafenone, quinidine, ritonavir, sertraline, barbiturates, levodopa, guanethidine, guanadrel, smoking.
