Clindamycin HCl
Indications/Uses
Serious or severe gm+ve infections caused by susceptible organisms particularly Streptococci, Pneumococci & Staphylococci & susceptible strains of Chlamydia trachomatis including susceptible anaerobic bacteria. Infections of the upper & lower resp tract, skin & soft tissue & other serious infection, septicemia, intra-abdominal infections eg, peritonitis & abscess. gynecology infection, dental infection eg, periodontal abscess & periodontitis. Penicillin-allergic patients or patients whom penicillin use is inappropriate.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Serious infection: 150-300 mg 6 hrly. More serious infection: 300-450 mg 6 hrly. Cervicitis due to Chlamydia trachomatis 450 mg 4 times daily for 10-14 days. Childn 8-16 mg/kg daily in 3 or 4 divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: Swallow whole w/ a full glass of water.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to clindamycin or lincomycin. Patients w/ diarrhea.
Special Precautions
Colitis. Patients receiving neuromuscular blockers. Atopic patients. Periodic liver & kidney function tests & blood counts should be performed during prolonged therapy. Hepatic or renal impairment; diarrhea. Pregnancy & lactation. Newborn & infant.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; jaundice, LFTs abnormalities; maculopapular rash, urticaria; pruritus, vaginitis; dysgeusia; transient neutropenia (leukopenia) & eosinophilia; agranulocytosis & thrombocytopenia.
