Zn sulfate monohydrate
Indications/Uses
As complementary therapy to oral rehydration soln; replaces fluid loss & prevents dehydration in childn.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Syr Childn 6 mth-5 yr 20 mg (1 tsp) daily for 10 days; infant 2-6 mth 10 mg (½ tsp) daily for 10 days. Oral drops Childn 6 mth-5 yr 10 mg (2 mL) daily for 10 days; infant 2-6 mth 10 mg (1 mL) daily for 10 days.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Special Precautions
Administer oral rehydration soln concomitantly.
Adverse Reactions
Vomiting, reduced plasma lipoprotein level & Cu absorption.
Drug Interactions
Reduced absorption w/ tetracycline. Fe-containing drugs may impair Zn absorption.
