Hypertension
Adult: 15-30 mg bid.
Indications and Dosage
Oral
Hypertension Adult: 15-30 mg bid.

Contraindications
Aortic stenosis or outflow tract obstruction, active or suspected renovascular disease. Pregnancy.

Special Precautions
Patient w/ history of idiopathic or hereditary angioedema, diarrhoea, water or Na depletion, peripheral vascular disease or generalised atherosclerosis, collagen vascular disorders (e.g. SLE, scleroderma). Renal impairment. Lactation.

Adverse Reactions
Hypotension, dizziness, fatigue, headache, GI disturbances, persistent dry cough and other upper resp tract symptoms, angioedema, blood disorders (e.g. neutropenia and agranulocytosis), hyperkalaemia, hyponatraemia, skin rashes.

Monitoring Parameters
Assessment of renal function prior and throughout therapy. Monitor serum K level, WBC count and presence of protein in urine regularly.

Drug Interactions
Additive hyperkalaemic effects w/ K-sparing diuretics, K supplements, other drugs that can cause hyperkalaemia (e.g. ciclosporin, indometacin).

Food Interaction
Avoid alcohol as it may potentially result to excessive hypotension.

Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Delapril inhibits ACE from converting angiotensin I to angiotensin II (a potent vasoconstrictor) resulting in increased in plasma renin activity and reduced aldosterone (a hormone that causes water and Na retention). It may also inhibit the degradation of bradykinin. |
