Desloratadine
Indications/Uses
Symptomatic relief of nasal & non-nasal allergic rhinitis (eg, intermittent & persistent allergic rhinitis) in patients ≥12 yr. Symptomatic relief of pruritus, reduction in the number & size of hives in patients w/ urticaria ≥12 yr.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn ≥12 yr 5 mg once daily. Patients w/ liver or renal impairment Initially 1 FC tab (5 mg) every other day.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to desloratadine, or loratadine.
Special Precautions
Patients w/ medical record or having historical family in seizures. Immediately discontinue if patients has seizure during treatment. Advise patients not to increase the dose or dosing frequency; increased effectiveness at higher doses & somnolence may occur. Pregnancy. Lactation. Ped patients <12 yr. Childn are susceptible to seizures during treatment. Elderly.
Adverse Reactions
Chronic idiopathic urticaria: Tachycardia, & rarely hypersensitivity reactions (eg, rash, pruritus, urticaria, edema, dyspnea, & anaphylaxis), psychomotor hyperactivity, somnolence, seizures, hepatitis & elevated liver enzymes including bilirubin.
