Famotidine
Indications/Uses
Duodenal & benign gastric ulcer; GERD; esophagitis including erosions & ulcerations; pathological hypersecretory conditions. Severe Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Duodenal ulcer Acute therapy: 40 mg once daily at bedtime or 20 mg twice daily. Maintenance: 20 mg once daily at bedtime. Benign gastric ulcer Acute therapy: 40 mg once daily at bedtime. GERD 20 mg twice daily for up to 6 wk. Esophagitis including erosions & ulcerations 20-40 mg twice daily for up to 12 wk. Pathological hypersecretory conditions Initially 20 mg 6 hrly. Severe Zollinger-Ellison syndrome Up to 160 mg 6 hrly.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Special Precautions
Exclude gastric malignancy before starting treatment. Renal impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Adverse Reactions
Headache, dizziness, constipation, diarrhea, fever, asthenia, fatigue, arrhythmia, AV block, palpitation, GI disturbances, hematological reactions, hypersensitivity, muscle cramps, arthralgia, CNS effects, bronchospasm, alopecia, acne, pruritic, dry skin, flushing, tinnitus, impotence.
