Indications and Dosage
Oral
Minor infections of the mouth and throat
Adult: Suck 1 loz (0.25 mg) up to 6 times daily. Dosing recommendations may vary among individual products and between countries (refer to specific product guidelines).

Vaginal
Bacterial vaginosis
Adult: Insert 1 vaginal tab (10 mg) once daily at bedtime for 6 days. Interrupt treatment during menstruation and resume afterwards.
Contraindications
Vaginal tab: Hypersensitivity. Ulceration of the vaginal epithelium and the vaginal portion of the cervix.
Special Precautions
Avoid the use of vaginal tab within 12 hours before birth. Vaginal tab is not indicated for use prior to menarche. Pregnancy and lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Gastrointestinal disorders: Glossalgia (loz).
General disorders and administration site conditions: Fever (vaginal tab).
Reproductive system and breast disorders: Vaginal discharge or candidiasis, vulvovaginal pruritus or burning sensation (vaginal tab).
Patient Counseling Information
Vaginal tab: Use a sanitary towel or pantyliner following administration. Avoid the use of non-latex condoms and other intravaginal devices for at least 12 hours following the treatment.
Drug Interactions
Anionic substances (e.g. soaps, vaginal wash, detergents, surfactants) may reduce the antimicrobial activity of dequalinium vaginal tab; avoid concomitant use.
Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Dequalinium is a quaternary ammonium anti-infective agent against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, fungi and yeasts. It increases bacterial cell permeability and reduces enzymatic activity, thus causing cell death.
Onset: 30-60 minutes (vaginal tab).
