Deferasirox
Indications/Uses
Chronic Fe overload due to blood transfusions (transfusional hemosiderosis).
Dosage/Direction for Use
Initially 20 mg/kg once daily.
Administration
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 20 min before meals.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. CrCl <40 mL/min or >2 times the age-appropriate upper limit of normal.
Special Precautions
Ulcers w/ GI perforation. SJS, erythema multiforme, skin rashes. Risk of acute renal failure, renal tubulopathy. Hepatic failure.
Adverse Reactions
Increased blood creatinine. Headache; diarrhea, constipation, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain or distention, dyspepsia, increased transaminases; rash; pruritus; proteinuria.
Drug Interactions
Not to be used concomitantly w/ other Fe chelator therapies.
