Cefamandole nafate
Indications/Uses
Lower resp infections, UTI, peritonitis, septicemia, skin & soft tissue, bone & joint infection. Treatment & prophylactic measure during & post-op.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 500 mg-1 g 4-8 hrly. Mild skin & soft tissue infection, uncomplicated pneumonia 500 mg 6 hrly. Mild uncomplicated UTI infection 500 mg 8 hrly. Severe infections: 1 g 4 or 6 hrly. Severe UTI infections 1 g 8 hrly. Life-threatening infection: 2 g 4 hrly. Childn & infant 50-100 mg/kg/day in divided doses 4-8 hrly. More severe infections: 150 mg/kg/day. Max: Adult dose. Pre-op Adult 1-2 g IV/IM ½-1 hr before surgery then 1-2 g 6 hrly for 24-48 hr. Childn >3 mth 50-100 mg/kg/day in divided doses IV/IM.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins; history of GI diseases (colitis); impaired renal function.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances; urticaria, allergic reactions, rash, eosinophilia; blood disorders.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides, anticoagulants, probenecid may reduce renal clearance.
