Cefadroxil monohydrate
Indications/Uses
Resp tract, skin & soft tissue, GUT infections; osteomyelitis, arthritis, septicemia, peritonitis, puerperal sepsis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult 1-2 g daily in 2 divided doses. Cystitis 1-2 g daily as a single dose. Other UTI 2 g daily in 2 divided doses. Skin & soft tissue infections 1 g daily. Upper & lower resp tract infections 1 g daily, may be increased to 2 g daily in severe infections. Pharyngitis & tonsillitis 1 g daily in divided dose for 10 days. Childn 25-50 mg/kg/day in 2 divided doses.
Administration
May be taken with or without food: May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Hypersensitivity to penicillins. Impaired renal function. Patients on potent diuretics & nephrotoxic antibiotics.
Adverse Reactions
Pseudomembranous colitis, allergic reactions, pruritus, genital moniliasis, vaginitis, moderate & transient neutropenia, minor elevations in serum transaminases.
Drug Interactions
Aminoglycosides, potent diuretics, probenecid.
