Erythromycin (Caplet: stearate; Dry syr/chewable tab: ethylsuccinate)
Indications/Uses
Resp tract, skin & soft tissue infection, pneumonia, gonorrhoea, other infections caused by susceptible microorganism.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult & childn >20 kg Chewable tab 2 chewable tab 4 times daily. Caplet 1 caplet 2 times daily. Syr 10 mL 4 times daily. Childn ≤20 kg 30-50 mg/kg daily in 4 divided doses.
Administration
FC caplet: Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take 1 hr before or 2 hr after meals. May be taken w/ meals to reduce GI discomfort. Chewable tab/Dry syr: May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity.
Special Precautions
Prolonged use. Impaired liver function, renal insufficiency. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
GI disturbances, allergic reaction, superinfection, ototoxicity, pseudomembranous colitis.
Drug Interactions
Potentiates effects of carbamazepine, theophylline, warfarin & digoxin.
