Euthyroid goitreAdult 75-200 mcg. Adolescent 50-150 mcg. Relapse prophylaxis after strumectomy 75-200 mcg. HypothyroidismAdult Initially 25-50 mcg, may be increased by 25-50 mcg at 2-4 wkly intervals. Maintenance: 125-250 mcg. Childn Initially 12.5-50 mcg. Maintenance: 100-150 mcg/m2. Concomitant therapy w/ antithyroid 50-100 mcg. After total thyroidectomy 150-300 mcg. Thyroid suppression test 200 mcg. All doses are to be taken once daily.
Should be taken on an empty stomach: Take at least 30 min before breakfast.
Contraindications
Hyperthyroidism of any origin except as concomitant therapy in treating hyperthyroidism w/ antithyroid drugs after achieving normal function. Thyrotoxicosis, acute MI, uncorrected adrenal insufficiency.
