Atracurium besylate
Indications/Uses
Adjunct to general anesth to facilitate endotracheal intubation & to provide skeletal muscle relaxation during surgery or mechanical ventillation.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Maintenance of neuromuscular block 0.1-0.6 mg/kg/hr as continuous infusion.
Contraindications
Pregnancy.
Special Precautions
Do not administer via IM inj. Avoid prolonged use especially in ICU patients. CV or resp disease, history of severe anaphylactoid reactions or asthma, myasthenia gravis, Eaton-Lambert syndrome, neuromuscular disease, severe electrolyte disorders or carcinomatosis, hypovolemia, burn injury. Lactation. Childn <1 yr. Neonates.
Adverse Reactions
Generalized flushing, hypotension, HTN, tachycardia, bradycardia; localized skin reactions; bronchospasms; anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions, inj site reactions, inadequate or prolonged neuromuscular block.
Drug Interactions
Barbiturates, aminoglycosides, polymyxins, spectinomycin, tetracyclines, lincomycin, clindamycin, vancomycin, antiarrhythmic drugs, β-blockers, Ca channel blockers, diuretics, ganglion-blocking agents, Mg sulfate, ketamine, lithium salts, quinine.
