Short-term symptomatic treatment of acute exacerbations of OA; long-term symptomatic treatment of RA.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Exacerbations of OA 7.5 mg once daily, may be increased to 15 mg once daily. RA 15 mg once daily, may be reduced to 7.5 mg daily. High-risk patient Initially 7.5 mg once daily. Patient w/ renal failure ≤7.5 mg once daily. Max: 15 mg/day.
Administration
Should be taken with food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to acetosal. Active gastric ulcer for the last 6 mth or history of recurred gastric ulcer. Severe kidney disease & non-dialysis kidney failure. GI bleeding, cerebrovascular hemorrhage or other hemorrhagic disorders. Severe liver dysfunction. Asthma, nasal polyp or angioedema or urticarial symptoms after using acetosal or other NSAIDs. Pregnancy & lactation. Childn.
Special Precautions
Preexisting or risk of CV disease, HTN, fluid retention, heart failure, history of GI ulcer/bleeding (discontinue). Concomitant use w/ corticosteroid or oral anticoagulants. Long-term treatment. Smoking, alcohol consumption. May reduce effectivity of IUD. Childn <15 yr. Elderly, debilitated patients.
Adverse Reactions
Rarely, GI disturbances, edema, pain, HTN, flushing, palpitation, dizziness, headache, vertigo, tinnitus, drowsiness, anemia, arthralgia, back pain, insomnia, cough, resp infection, dyspnea, pruritus, rash, urticaria, photosensitivity, increased frequency of micturition, UTI, increased serum urea, creatinine, transaminase &/or bilirubin levels.
