Indications and Dosage
Topical/Cutaneous
Inflammatory and/or dysplastic skin diseases Adult: Each g of ointment contains flumetasone pivalate 0.02% and salicylic acid 3%. Apply a thin layer onto the affected areas 1-2 times daily. To be applied only once daily if occlusive dressing is used.

Contraindications
Systemic fungal infections, untreated bacterial infections. Tuberculosis of skin, syphilitic skin infections, viral and acute fungal infections of the skin, acne vulgaris, perioral dermatitis, rosacea.

Special Precautions
Not to be used on acute weeping or subacute exudative wounds. Severe renal impairment. Avoid repeated application to large extensive skin areas as substantial absorption of the drugs may lead to systemic effects. Monitor adrenal function in patients requiring extensive application and/or application under occlusive dressings. Avoid use on eyes, mouth and mucous membranes. Risk of secondary infection during the use of topical corticosteroids. Discontinue treatment if there is atrophy of skin and/or subcutaneous tissues. Patients with stasis dermatitis or skin diseases associated with impaired blood curculation. Caution when used in infants and children. Pregnancy and lactation.

Adverse Reactions
Local erythema, dryness, pruritus, smarting and desquamation. Change in pigmentation, secondary infections and contact allergy. When occlusive dressings are used, miliaria, pustules, folliculitis and pyoderma may occur.

Action
Description:
Mechanism of Action: Flumetasone is a corticosteroid that is used topically for the treatment of various skin disorders. It has anti-inflammatory, antipruritic and antiallergic properties. Salicylic acid is squamolytic and mildly keratolytic, thus aiding transepidermal penetration of the active ingredients. It also has some antiseptic effect against bacteria and fungi. |
