CapAdult 250 mg 8 hrly. Bronchitis & pneumonia 250 mg 3 times daily. Childn 20 mg/kg/day in divided doses 8 hrly. More serious infections, otitis media & infections caused by less susceptible organisms 40 mg/kg/day. Max: 1 g/day. β-hemolytic streptococcal infections Duration of therapy: At least 10 days. Max: 4 g/day for 28 days. 125-mg syrMild infectionsChildn 18 kg 5 mL, 9 kg 2.5 mL. Severe infectionsChildn 18 kg 10 mL, 9 kg 5 mL. Doses of syr should be taken 3 times daily. 250-mg Forte syrMild infectionsChildn 18 kg 2.5 mL. Severe infectionsChildn 18 kg 5 mL, 9 kg 2.5 mL. Doses of syr should be taken 3 times daily.
Administration
May be taken with or without food.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins.
Special Precautions
Penicillin-sensitive patients; discontinue if allergic reaction occurs. Avoid prolonged use. History of GI disease particularly colitis, renal function impairment. Pregnancy & lactation. Infant <1 mth.
Adverse Reactions
Hypersensitivity reactions; urticaria, morbiliform eruptions, pruritus, +ve Coombs' tests, serum-sickness like reactions; SJS, TEN, anaphylaxis; GI symptoms; eosinophilia, thrombocytopenia; transient hepatitis, cholestatic jaundice; CNS effects; genital pruritus, vaginitis, slight elevations of AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase, blood urea or serum creatinine, hematuria or pyrexia or pyuria.
