Meloxicam
Indications/Uses
Short-term symptomatic treatment in acute exacerbation of OA. Long-term symptomatic treatment of RA (chronic polyarthritis). Symptomatic treatment of ankylosing spondylitis.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Adult Max dose: 15 mg daily. OA 7.5 mg daily. May be increased to 15 mg daily. RA & ankylosing spondylitis 15 mg daily. May be reduced to 7.5 mg daily. Initially 7.5 mg daily for patient w/ increased risk of adverse events. Patient w/ severe renal failure receiving dialysis Max dose: 7.5 mg daily.
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity. Patients w/ symptoms of asthma, nasal polyps, angioedema, urticaria upon treatment w/ acetylsalicylic acid or other NSAIDs. Active gastric ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, GI bleeding.
Special Precautions
CV thrombotic events, HTN, CHF & edema.
Adverse Reactions
Gastric ulcer, perforation or gastric bleeding; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence, constipation, dyspepsia. Increased risk of arterial thrombotic events.
Drug Interactions
Concomitant use w/ NSAIDs is not recommended. Increased plasma conc w/ acetosal.
